A Brief History of Our Shop & Staff

 

 
The Violin Shoppe (formerly Donley Violin Company LLC) was founded in December of 2002 to serve the needs of the string players of the Carolinas and the Southeast. The mission of The Violin Shoppe is to provide the string musicians of the Southeast with a world-class, full-service string shop.

Glen measures a new violinist for an instrumentCustomers at The Violin Shoppe are often served by Glen Alexander, a champion fiddle player with 30 years of playing experience, 15 years of music retail experience, 18 years of music teaching, and eight years of classical training. He has worked in sales, repair, and management positions at several music stores in the Carolinas and teaches fiddle lessons at the Iredell Arts Council and at The Violin Shoppe. A two-time champion of the world-famous Galax, Virginia Fiddlers Convention, winner of the prestigious Fiddler of the Festival award at Union Grove, North Carolina, Glen continues to enjoy playing and winning at festivals all over the South. Glen has opened for many artists including Allison Krauss Jennifer keeps track of appointments, sales and rentalsand Ricky Skaggs, and has a special talent for helping musicians of all backgrounds and ages find the instrument they've always wanted. Glen heads our sales and marketing departments as Sales Manager.

Jennifer Strassberg is our accounts manager. Jennifer developed a fondness for music at an early age. She is very knowledgeable about stringed instruments and has helped countless customers find their instruments and supplies at our shop. She manages our growing rental program and keeps the shop running smoothly.

Robert Anderson, proprietor of a violin repair shop in Union Grove, NC assists with contract repairs and helps out in our repair shop when we can bring him to the big city.

Through a never-ending line of apprenticeship, violin makers--yet unborn-- will work to preserve and maintain the instrument you now play, and will create new masterpieces, firmly rooted in centuries of experience, but molded to fit the music of the times.

The golden age of Italian violin making and restoration is alive and well, and we thank you for allowing us to make you and your instrument a part of that proud tradition.
